This system of dots and lines is known as niqqud, a Hebrew word which means “applying dots”. It was devised by a group of early Medieval Jewish scribes and Bible scholars known as the Masoretes (masoret means “tradition” in Hebrew).
Numerical Values of Words
The letter Aleph is one of the most important and noteworthy letters in the Hebrew alphabet for a number of reasons, some spiritual and some practical. Yod can also sometimes function as a consonantal vowel in Hebrew, meaning it can sound like the letter ‘y’ or the letter ‘i’ depending on where it’s positioned in the word. There is, however, another style used when writing Hebrew by hand, which is called Ktav in Hebrew, Hebrew cursive. Hebrew cursive is easy to write and its letters are not attached to each other as in English.
